For Instructors

Instructor material

This section is written for instructors and teaching assistants, not for students. Students do not need to read it. If this material should not be public, add instructor/ to an exclude_docs entry in mkdocs.yml — the files stay in the repository but disappear from the published site.

About the course

A public, self-study course in Software Project Management for undergraduate Computer Science and Data Science students, progressing from foundations to an end-to-end capstone.

Instructor: Engr. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem Majeed — Professor, Department of Data Science (PUCIT), University of the Punjab, Lahore.

Design principles

The course is built student-first. That has concrete consequences for how it is written:

  1. Self-contained. Every concept is explained in the material; no lecture is required to understand a page.
  2. Self-assessable. Quizzes hide their answers, and every lab carries a rubric, so a student without an instructor can still judge their own work.
  3. Practice-led. Each module pairs theory with a lab that produces a real artefact.
  4. Honest about accuracy. No fabricated statistics, quotations, or citations appear anywhere in the course.
  5. Portable. Content is plain Markdown, so it can be reused, reordered, or adapted.

What is in this section

Page Use it for
Course Instructor Who authored and maintains the course, and the published details — name, designation, department, institution
Teaching Guide Running the course: pacing, flipped-classroom notes, common student difficulties
Assessment Guide Using the quizzes, labs, and rubrics; weighting; marking guidance
Course Map How modules map to outcomes, labs, cases, and assessments
Capstone Supervision Supervising and marking capstones: checkpoints, patterns to intervene on, group work
Lab Answer Keys Worked solutions and model answers for all 25 labs — published, and therefore not secure

Two further pages are useful to instructors though they are written for students: the Common Misconceptions index, which is also a marking aid, and the Capstone Rubric, which students and instructors use alike.

Published details, and only those

The only instructor information published with this course is on the Course Instructor page: a name, an academic designation, a department, and an institution. No other qualification, publication, affiliation, or professional claim is made anywhere in this repository, and no personal contact details are published. Enquiries go through the repository's issue tracker — see Contributing.

Using the course as-is

Because the course is self-study, you can also run it as a reading-and-labs course with minimal delivery: set the module for the week, hold a short discussion on the lab, and answer questions. The Teaching Guide explains how to do this.

A note on the answer keys

The lab answer keys are in Lab Answer Keys. They are published in this public repository, so they are not confidential: no graded assessment should depend on students not finding them. Each lab page directs students to attempt the work independently and self-mark against the self-check criteria before reading a key, and every answer key states the same caveat. For graded work, write your own variants.

Contributing instructor material

Instructor pages follow the same rules as student material — in particular, no unverifiable claims. Mark every new instructor page with the admonition above so its audience is unambiguous.
