Quizzes

Two short quizzes check your understanding of each half of the course before the bigger exams. They are closed-notes, in-class, ~25 minutes, given at the start of the session shown below. Full details and policies are in the Assessment Plan.

Quiz 1 Week 8 · Session 15 (start of class) Weeks 1–7 — Python, Jupyter, Git/GitHub, NumPy, Pandas, data cleaning, data acquisition & combining, visualization CLO-1
Quiz 2 Week 15 · Session 29 (start of class) Weeks 8–14 — EDA, intro to ML, regression, classification, clustering, pipelines & cross-validation, reproducibility, LLMs, PandasAI, Ollama, tool calling & agents, Streamlit CLO-2, CLO-3

See the Course Schedule for all key dates.

Question types

Questions test understanding and application, not memorization. You will see a mix of:

  • Multiple choice with plausible distractors
  • Code tracing — "what does this code print?"
  • Debugging — find the bug in a short, realistic snippet
  • Short answer — explain a concept in 1–3 sentences (e.g., why fill a missing value with the group median rather than dropping the row)
  • Conceptual / scenario items that ask you to apply several skills to a small situation
Quiz questions reuse course examples with variations

Quizzes are drawn from the same ideas and datasets you have already seen in the sessions, labs, and notebooks — but with the numbers, columns, or context changed. If you understood the example, you can answer the variation.

How to prepare

  1. After every session, answer that session's "Short assessment questions" section out loud or in writing — they are quiz-format practice.
  2. Do every lab. Quiz items mirror lab checkpoint questions.
  3. Review the session summaries — each lecture page lists its key concepts and terminology.
  4. For Quiz 1, Lab 16 · Midterm Review gives a timed practice run in the same format.
  5. Re-run the course notebooks from Module A (Quiz 1) or Modules B–C (Quiz 2) so the code is in your fingers, not just your eyes.

Policies to remember

  • Closed notes; no saved notebooks; no AI assistants (the course AI-use policy in the Assessment Plan applies).
  • Quizzes are graded in class right after submission — expect a quick review discussion of the common mistakes.
  • Answer keys are distributed by your instructor and are not published on this site.
